Positive COVID-19 cases identified at seven Houston County schools

The Houston County School District announced that people at seven schools have tested positive for COVID-19.

While the release didn’t indicate how many people had tested positive, or whether they were students or teachers, the district did say that parents of students who may have been exposed were informed by a school principal, as were staff members and parents of children “not identified as close contacts.”

The announcement of cases at seven schools — Houston County High, Lake Joy Primary, Lindsey Elementary, Mossy Creek Middle, Perry Middle, Thomson Middle and Quail Run Elementary — follows a similar release on Monday, when the district said cases had been identified at Shirley Hills Elementary in Warner Robins and Perry High and Perry Middle schools.

Houston County schools began in-person classes last Thursday.

“The school district continues to work closely with the Houston County Health Department, which investigates and conducts contact tracing,” the statement read. “Due to privacy requirements, the names of the individual or details that may identify them cannot be released.

Individuals who were in close contact with individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus will quarantine for 14 days, “unless advised otherwise by the Health Department.”
