Bibb teacher placed on leave after allegedly dragging student from seat

A Bibb County teacher has been placed on paid leave after a report of child cruelty.

A teacher at Ballard-Hudson Middle School allegedly dragged a sixth-grade boy out of his seat, pushed him to the floor and blocked him from leaving the classroom, according to the incident report from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The incident incident occurred Nov. 17, just before Thanksgiving break.

The child told his mother about the incident, she reported it to the school Monday, and Department of Family and Child Services was notified Tuesday, the DFCS case worker told the sheriff’s office.

The case worker determined that the student’s statement matched video footage from the classroom. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, as is the human resources department of the school district.

The teacher will be on administrative leave with pay until the investigation concludes, the district reported.
