Local student makes history at local prep school

A Milledgeville student has finished 12th grade with two diplomas. Chase Sheffield is the first student ever at Georgia Military College’s Prep School to earn both a high school diploma and associate’s degree in general studies.

The Gray resident transferred to the Prep School, which is for grades six through 12, in ninth-grade and started taking dual-enrollment classes in 10th grade, in addition to taking Advanced Placement and honors classes. The state’s Move On When Ready Program allows students to fulfill their high school class requirements while earning college credit.

Sheffield is the Prep School’s 2017 salutatorian and earned a 4.0 grade point average. He served as the second battalion executive officer, captain of the football and golf teams, and was the vice president of the student government association.

This fall, he will double-major in mechanical engineering and finance at University of Tennessee, where he has received a four-year Army ROTC scholarship.
