A Mercer professor recently traveled to Michigan to accept an award. Charles Roberts received one of six Historical Leader Awards during the first Historical and Emerging Leaders Recognition and Reception hosted by the Black Faculty, Staff and Administrators Association of Michigan State University on April 11.

Roberts is a Mercer alumnus and has been an associate math professor at the school’s Penfield College for the past 16 years, but he also spent nearly 30 years studying and working at Michigan State University. Among other programs, he helped start the Charles Drew Science Scholars program, which provides support for minority students in math and science programs.

In 2015, Roberts received Mercer’s Hendricks Excellence in Teaching Award, which is the school’s highest teaching award.
