Glass-shattering ‘loud explosion’ wakes Macon man who soon discovers cause
One night in mid-June, a man who lives on Mary Drive, which runs off Hillcrest Avenue in Macon, was jarred awake by what he described to the cops as “a loud explosion.”
After the boom woke him about 10 p.m., the man, 66, said he went outside to see what was wrong.
“He noticed that some of his flower pots were lying on the ground in his front yard,” a Bibb County sheriff’s report of the June 11 episode noted.
The man went to bed and the next day discovered where the loud explosion had come from. Somehow he hadn’t noticed the damage in the dark, but one of the flower pots had been hurled against a front window of his house, busting the glass.
“He also,” the sheriff’s report continued, “noticed that more flower pots had been destroyed along with one of his solar garden lights.”
The man went on to say he thinks the damage may be the result of an earlier “minor incident” between him and his neighbors’ kids.
“He stated that he had asked the children to stop riding their bicycles through his front yard because it was tearing up the grass,” the sheriff’s report said. “He stated that when they would not listen to his request he went and spoke to their mother, which got him dirty looks from the children.”
Dispatches: A man at a Valero gas mart on Gray Highway in east Macon walked up to the counter one afternoon in late June and asked to buy a single cigarette. A clerk told him she couldn’t sell singles. The man then, as a sheriff’s report noted, “got upset and kicked the front door with his foot,” which shattered the door’s glass. He then took off running and got away. . . . A 26-year-old man was reportedly seen performing a lewd act in public while lying on the ground in a parking garage in the 500 block of Mulberry Street in downtown Macon. The incident happened the morning of June 30. A couple of passersby yelled at him to stop. The man was then said to have rolled over on his stomach and begun “humping the ground in a sexual and lewd manner,” as a sheriff’s report described it, an act that involved “lewd caressing of himself.” A sheriff’s deputy recognized the man’s description from past “exposing” episodes and said the guy, who lived at a nearby shelter, would be arrested when he was found.
