Georgia man calls cops, says a woman stole his dentures

We here at the Cop Shop, The Telegraph’s weekly police blotter, run across our share of strange and unusual reports of crime and mischief. The cases and the reasons for which they arise are often not explainable. We share them nonetheless as they are a snapshot of the oddities and curiosities of our time. One such matter was noted in a Feb. 24 write-up typed by a Bibb County sheriff’s deputy. The succinct report, all of three sentences, began by mentioning that a 33-year-old man had called the sheriff’s office “to report a theft.” The fellow who called said that a 25-year-old woman he knows “has taken his dentures and gone to a friend’s house.” The man said he didn’t wish to pursue criminal charges. He said he “just wanted his dentures back” and hoped that by calling the cops “the local sheriff’s office would assist him.” It was unknown at presstime whether the coppers had recovered the choppers, which were said to be worth $400. It was also not clear how the woman may have made off with the artificial teeth.

Dispatches: A man described in a Feb. 24 sheriff’s report as having “an extensive history of shoplifting” was jailed after he was allegedly caught at Kroger on North Avenue in Macon with $99.93 worth of Tide pods “concealed in his clothing.” . . . A 56-year-old woman who lives in south Bibb County reported a burglary in mid-January. She informed a sheriff’s deputy that the only belongings that appeared to be missing were “various pairs of blue jeans” worth an estimated $200. The woman said someone she knows, another woman, “has had other occasions where she … has taken other things from her home,” a report of the incident noted. She said that in November “there was another instance where horse-riding clothes were taken.”
