Boy, 9, in Mickey Mouse shirt caught on camera smashing window at vacant Macon school

An alarm went off at the vacant charter school on Madison Street in Macon’s Pleasant Hill neighborhood the evening of Oct. 9. Glass in a door had been busted. Footage from a security camera showed seven children who looked to be between the ages of 6 and 10. One of the children, a boy in a red Mickey Mouse shirt, could be seen heaving a brick through the glass, a Bibb County sheriff’s report of the incident noted. The children scattered when the glass broke. A sheriff’s deputy went door-to-door in the area around Walnut and Madison streets. At one of the houses, the deputy told a grandmother about the vandalism and described the boy in the Mickey Mouse shirt to her. “I know you’re not talking about my grandson,” she said. She called the boy out of a room and the deputy showed her the surveillance video, which left no doubt that the grandson was the culprit. “He admitted to breaking the glass,” the deputy’s write-up said, “and stated that his cousin told him to do it.”
