Admitted shoplifter caught with hand in cookie jar — after downing a beer
A theft was reported at the Reliance Food Mart on Napier Avenue in Macon on Oct. 17. A 30-year-old man who lives nearby on Mumford Road was said to have been in the store “off and on for about three hours,” a Bibb County sheriff’s report said. The man was reportedly “just taking items, opening them, and eating them in the store.” In all, the sheriff’s write-up said, the man drank a Dr Pepper, a beer and ate some cookies. In fact, the report said, he “was seen with a cookie in hand prior to his arrest” on misdemeanor shoplifting charges. The guy admitted taking the stuff, the report added, “because he didn’t have any money or anywhere to go, so he wanted to go to jail.”
