DUI suspect asks to skip sobriety tests along busy highway because he’s ‘embarrassed’
On the evening of May 17, a man in a 2004 gray Honda Accord was pulled over for speeding on Riverside Drive in north Macon. The cops said he was doing 63 mph in a 50-mph zone. A Bibb County sheriff’s deputy who pulled the man over smelled alcohol. The driver, 59, said he’d had two beers. A silver can of Icehouse Edge was open on a center console in his car. The man’s eyes were red and glassy. While he was doing some sobriety tests on the roadside there north of Hall Road, an often busy area near an Interstate 75 interchange, the man asked the deputy if they could just get to the breath test. “I am embarrassed out here,” he said, according to the deputy’s write-up. The deputy retrieved his breath tester, and the man’s blood-alcohol reading was more than twice the legal limit.
