Man shot in the leg after confronted by a pair of gun-toting bicyclists

A 19-year-old man who was shot in his thigh Monday told police he was walking down Montpelier Avenue when two gun-toting men on bicycles confronted him.

According to an incident report from Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told officers he was near Montpelier Place when the pair of young men on bikes said something like, “What are you doing in our neighborhood?” before pulling out guns and pointing them at him.

The shorter of the two cyclists pointed two black revolvers at the 19-year-old before shooting him with one of them, the report said. The taller man was toting a silver handgun, but the report said he didn’t fire it.

With a bullet in his left leg, the passerby ran to a house in the 1400 block of Berkner Court and “begged the homeowner to call for help,” the report said.

At a hospital, doctors said the bullet would not be removed and the 19-year-old could probably go home soon, the report said.

The shooting is being investigated.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
