Pizza deliveryman reportedly attacked at Macon apartments

A pizza deliveryman told Bibb County sheriff deputies he was assaulted early Saturday at an apartment complex in north Macon, according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office.

It was just after midnight when 27-year-old deliveryman with a Papa John’s pizza arrived at an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Napier Avenue, the report said. The delivery was for Building 22 in the complex, which isn’t far from Vineville and Brookdale avenues, the report said.

Upon his arrival, Terrence Jackson realized there wasn’t a Building 22. The buildings were marked with letters, he later told a deputy.

Realizing this, Jackson said he tried to call the number of the person who ordered the pizza, but there was no answer so he decided to leave, the report said.

Jackson said he was on the way back to the pizza joint when a man called, giving a different apartment number, the report said. So, he turned around and knocked on that door.

A woman came to the door, but she said she didn’t order a pizza.

Then, a man approached Jackson and asked him for a cigarette. At that moment, the deliveryman “felt something was wrong” and rushed back to his car, the report said.

Before he could start the engine, Jackson said the man tried to get his keys and punched him in the face, knocking off his glasses. Jackson told deputies the man left, and then another man began assaulting him with his fists before running toward the woods line behind the complex.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
