Fetus found in Macon trash can

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a fetus, or premature baby, was found in a trash container outside a house in Macon.

At about 11 a.m. Wednesday, a 30-year-old Macon woman was heavily bleeding when she showed up at Coliseum Hospital, according to a sheriff’s news release.

Doctors determined she had given birth but did not have a baby with her.

Bibb County sheriff’s Deputy Linda Howard said an investigation led to the 4300 block of Napier Avenue, not far from Forsyth Road, where tiny female remains were discovered in a bag that was in a trash container outside a house.

The woman’s pregnancy was not full term, officials said, but it was unclear how long she had been pregnant.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the woman's water broke at 5 a.m. and that social services notified the sheriff’s office at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

An autopsy is set for Friday to determine whether it was a live birth or if it was a miscarriage or stillborn birth to determine whether charges should be filed in the case.

Anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME, which is 877- 682-7463.
