Two injured in Westside High parking lot shooting

Two people were injured by gunfire in a Westside High School parking lot just after 1 a.m. Saturday.

A 21-year-old man and 18-year-old woman had been at a party across Heath Road from the school, at a house in the 100 block of George Oxford Drive, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

A fight broke out — that didn’t involve either the man or the woman — and the party ended.

The man returned to his car, parked in the Westside High parking lot, and was leaving when he heard gunshots. He was struck on his left ear, according to the release.

The woman was walking to the parking lot with a group of other people when she also heard gunshots. The group got on the ground, but the woman was shot in her right foot, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals by private vehicle for treatment of what deputies describe as injuries that are not life-threatening. The man and woman were listed in stable condition later Saturday morning, according to the release.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call deputies at 751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
