Milledgeville man faces litany of charges including robbery, burning cash in jail cell
A 24-year-old Milledgeville man is accused of robbing someone at gunpoint, running from police and later trying to start a fire by burning cash in his jail cell after being arrested Saturday night.
Terrance Turner faces charges including robbery, aggravated assault, arson, misdemeanor escape and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a news release from the Milledgeville Police Department.
A man reported he was sitting with a friend in his car in the 400 block of Pritchard Street about 9 p.m. Saturday night when they were robbed at gunpoint by another man, later identified as Turner, the release said.
The man told police he handed Turner the gun, and Turner began to walk away. When the man followed him, Turner reportedly fired shots into the air and started running, the release said.
Police were searching for Turner when an unrelated call came in from Applebee's about midnight regarding an unwanted person at the property. When police arrived at the Roberson Mill Road restaurant, they found Turner sitting in a booth, the release said.
Turner was handcuffed by an officer, but on the way to the patrol car Turner snatched away from him and fled across the road toward the mall parking lot, the release said.
After a short chase, Turner was arrested with help from Baldwin County sheriff's deputies.
However, "when they got him back to the city jail they had him in the holding cell and Turner produced a lighter and began setting his own money on fire," police Maj. Michael Hudson, criminal investigations commander, said in the release. "He ended up having a lot of charges."
Turner is currently at the Baldwin County jail, the release said.
