Bond denied for teen charged with rape at Northeast High School
A former Northeast High School student charged with raping a 14-year-old female student in a stairwell at the school last fall was denied bond Thursday.
Dashawn Beard, 15, who was arrested soon after the Nov. 18 incident, stood before Bibb County Superior Court Judge Howard Simms while a prosecutor described some of the allegations against Beard.
The alleged victim reportedly identified Beard by name to the school's principal and, later, to investigators.
The girl said she and Beard were acquaintances. An attorney for Beard said it appeared the girl had gone to the stairwell willingly, noting text messages between Beard and the girl.
A prosecutor said the episode was recorded by a surveillance camera and that video footage showed the pair enter a stairwell and kiss.
The girl tried to walk away from Beard several times, the prosecutor said, but each time Beard pulled her back, later pinning her against a wall.
Beard, the prosecutor said, then forced the girl to the floor and she tried to "scoot away," but Beard dragged her back and removed their clothes.
The prosecutor said Beard, in a statement to police, admitted having sex with the girl and that "he heard the victim saying no."
