Macon man shot in the face while with friends

An 18-year-old Macon man was in stable condition after being shot in the face Thursday night in the 1300 block of Courtland Avenue.

Just after 9 p.m., Marquez Jones was wounded while with friends about a block north of Montpelier Avenue and a block west of Pio Nono Avenue.

A news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said 17-year-old Tyricco Simmons was handling a pistol that discharged.

Simmons was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Jones was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

The sheriff's office is investigating the shooting and asks anyone with information to call 751-7500 or report anonymous tips to 877-68-CRIME.
