A 30-year-old Macon man was arrested Sunday night after fleeing from Bibb deputies.

At about 9 p.m. Sunday, a deputy patrolling near Pendleton Homes at 3401 Houston Ave. noticed a brown Ford Crown Victoria without headlights while going down the road.

The deputy tried to stop the car on Newburg Avenue, but the driver fled onto Evergreen Drive toward Hightower Road, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, later identified as Demario Chantez Riggins, lost control and ran into a ditch on Hightower Road.

Riggins ran away, but his passenger, 21-year-old Antonio Walker, of Macon, was taken to Medial Center, Navicent Health to be checked out, but suffered no injuries, according to the hospital.

Deputies later arrested Riggins at his home and charged him with felony fleeing and eluding a peace officer, reckless driving and driving without headlights.
