Macon teen jailed after luring robbery victim on Facebook

A robbery by snatching in Macon brings a warning from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office when buying or selling goods through social media.

A 14-year-old was arrested Tuesday and charged with robbery by snatching after the theft of a cell phone in the 3400 block of Vineville Avenue, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The unnamed juvenile was booked into the Youth Development Center after arranging on Facebook to meet the man selling a cell phone through the social media site.

When the seller showed the teen the phone, he boy snatched it and ran off.

The thief's Facebook photo led to the arrest of the teen at a local elementary school.

Deputies urge anyone purchasing or selling goods through the Internet to arrange a meeting in a populated area, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office or any law enforcement agency.
