Wild dirt bike ride leads to chase, arrest
A man driving a dirt bike recklessly in and out of traffic Sunday afternoon was unaware that he was being watched by Bibb County sheriff's deputies nearby, according to an incident report.
The man, later identified as 20-year-old Torry Slater, wasn't wearing a helmet.
Deputies tried to stop Slater, but he drove the bike onto the sidewalk upon seeing a deputy's blue lights, the report said.
"He then looked back and cut across all lanes on Napier (Avenue) trying to elude us," a deputy noted in the report.
The deputies followed Slater down Hillcrest Avenue, and Slater wrecked while attempting a sharp turn onto Wilmar Street, according to the report.
Slater jumped up immediately after falling off the bike and continued to run.
A deputy chased Slater through several backyards, jumping over fences in pursuit, the report said. The deputy attempted twice to tase Slater but missed, the report said.
Slater fell down near a dollar store on Napier Avenue, where he was arrested. A search of Slater's backpack revealed marijuana and prescription pills, according to the report.
Slater faces multiple traffic and drug charges.
