Man shot in south Macon, tells deputy he was robbed of cash and phone

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery of a man who was walking Tuesday night in south Macon.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. on Rice Mill Road after a stranger approached the man and told him to "give it up," according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The victim told the stranger he didn't have anything and fought briefly with him, the release said.

The victim heard a gunshot and ran, but he realized he'd been shot in the neck, according to a news release. The man went into a residence on Baker Drive to get help.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for a gunshot wound and a dislocated shoulder, according to the incident report. The sheriff's office said the bullet went through the man's neck and lodged in his abdomen.

The victim told police he was robbed of $70 and his cell phone, the report said. The incident is being investigated.
