Monroe County Sheriff's Office asks for help identifying a suspected thief

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help with identifying a man suspected of burglarizing a woman's car, stealing her financial transaction cards and using them at multiple stores.

The woman reported on Jan. 26 that the cards were stolen from her car, which was parked at a convenience store on Rumble Road, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. An investigation revealed the suspect, who is believed to drive a newer model Hyundai Sonata or similar vehicle, went to multiple locations and used the stolen cards near Bass Road in Macon.

A clerk at the Rumble Road store said the man presented an ID that indicated he was 20 years old, according to the release. The sheriff's office suspects the man is between 16 and 22 years old.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect is a light-skinned black or possibly mixed-race man with acne scars and light facial hair.

Anyone with information about the crimes or identity of the suspect is asked to call Sgt. Chris Landers at 994-7043 Ext. 234.
