Mabel White Christmas performers' cars broken into during Macon rehearsal
While church members held a dress rehearsal Thursday night for the Macon Christmas Festival, someone was smashing into cars in the parking lot of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office compiled reports for 18 automobile break-ins at the church at 1415 Bass Road.
"Everyone worked so hard," Worship Pastor Scott Harlow posted on Facebook. "Please pray for our church."
Windows were smashed in all 18 vehicles, and some of them had multiple windows broken, the report stated.
Harlow said two broken windows on one man's 2015 vehicle will cost about $600 to repair.
About a dozen people did not immediately notice anything taken, but three checkbooks, a purse, two wallets, two cellphones, cash and a black leather jacket were taken from other vehicles, the report said.
"We respond in love, and it just basically confirms we're on the right track," Harlow said. "There's evil in the world, and the church needs to be playing its role at Christmastime."
The church scheduled four performances of its Christmas program: Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 3 p.m.
