Suspect arrested in connection to Memorial Gym shooting

A man wanted on charges stemming from a summertime shooting outside a Macon recreation center was arrested Wednesday.

Davis Emmanuel Gay, 26, was arrested Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. on charges related to the Aug. 29 shooting outside Memorial Gym on Second Street, according to a Bibb County Sheriff's Office news release. Gay and three other people were shot during the incident.

Gay has been charged with aggravated assault and participation in criminal street gang activity in connection with the shooting. He also was wanted on an outstanding warrant on an unrelated charge, the release said.

Authorities said a large crowd of people was in the parking lot that summer evening when the shots were fired. In October, the sheriff's office asked for the public's help in finding Gay. Wednesday's arrest was made by the sheriff's gang unit along with the U.S. Marshal's Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Virgil Watkins said he was pleased to learn an arrest had been made in the shooting that happened in his district.

"I'm definitely glad that some form of justice has been served in the case," he said Wednesday afternoon. "I hope there's some resolution for the families involved."

Gay was still waiting Wednesday afternoon to go before a judge to have a bond set, the release said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff's office at 478-751-7500 and ask to leave a message for the on-call gang investigator, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
