Fitzgerald man indicted in Macon killing

A Macon man found dead, wrapped in blankets in a vacant apartment Sept. 5 died after being struck in the head, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court Tuesday.

Russell Ladarick Rogers, 38, of Fitzgerald, is charged with malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of Sammie Williams, according to the indictment.

A witness told Bibb County deputies he saw what appeared to be a body being removed from a car trunk and carried into a vacant Roy Street apartment, prosecutor Larissa Olliverre said at a Thursday bond hearing in the case.

The witness saw Rogers cleaning the car the following day, she said.

Rogers admitted to the witness that he killed a man, the owner of the car. He was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol for speeding Sept. 6 driving the car, which bore a car tag registered to Williams, Olliverre said.

After being read his rights, Rogers admitted to dumping the body in the apartment, she said.

Rogers is being held without bond at the Bibb County jail.
