Jones County residents warned of asphalt scammers
Jones County residents are being warned of scam artists who are visiting neighborhoods trying to sell asphalt that's actually a dangerous chemical.
Sheriff Butch Reece warned residents through Facebook on Tuesday to be on the lookout for two white men in a red GMC truck with an extended cab that's holding a tank in the truck bed.
"The company name that he is using is Star Seal and he said that his name was Patrick Riley," Reece said in the Facebook post. "He has scammed other people in other areas as well. The sealant he is using is a creosote based chemical and will not seal and is a hazardous chemical."
Monday, Reece said the scammers were trying to sell the chemical in the Welker Circle area.
Anyone who spots the truck in a neighborhood is asked to call the sheriff's office at 478-986-3489.
