Indictment: Macon man charged with murder also accused of stealing drugs, gun, cash
Bibb County grand jurors indicted a Macon man Tuesday in the July shooting death of another man outside Pendleton Homes at 3401 Houston Ave.
Steve Anthony Fort, 20, is charged with murder and armed robbery in the July 21 shooting death of 29-year-old Javoris Butler, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.
The indictment alleges Fort took a book bag -- which contained marijuana, cash and a gun -- from Butler at gunpoint and shot him.
Authorities previously have said Butler was visiting with friends outside the housing complex about 11 p.m. when he was shot multiple times.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
Fort was arrested in Suffolk, Virginia for charges in the case Aug. 26 after U.S. marshals in Georgia contacted colleagues saying he might be hiding in their area.
He is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond, according to jail records.
