Macon man arrested on theft charges after chase

A Macon man was arrested Saturday evening in connection with recent thefts in Bibb County.

Deputies had been looking for a white Toyota Avalon driven by a white male, and such a vehicle was spotted about 10 p.m. Saturday. Multiple deputies performed a traffic stop at the Zebulon Road exit of Interstate 475, and after identifying himself as Lee Alfred, the driver sped away. Deputies chased him and caught the vehicle on Bayne Street, but the driver left his car and tried to run before being captured.

The suspect, actually 41-year-old William Alfred Lee Jr., was charged with three counts of theft by shoplifting, fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and a probation violation. He is being held at the Bibb County jail with a bond of $2,600.

The incidents involving Lee are currently under investigation and could yield further charges.
