A Reynolds man was arrested late Tuesday night in the Monday attempted armed robbery of a Macon Circle K convenience store.

Investigators received information that led them to 48-year-old Clayton Gibson Jr., who was staying at the Palm Tree Inn, 2690 Riverside Drive, not far from the convenience store, located at 2580 Riverside Drive, according to a news release.

Gibson was questioned about the incident and later charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and a probation violation, according to the release.

Authorities have said a black man entered the store and asked to buy cigarettes, but when the clerk opened the register, the man demanded money. He allegedly put his hand in his pocket as if he had a gun and threatened the clerk.

The clerk refused to hand over the money and called 911.

The man, seen wearing a black mask covering his face, ran out of the store, headed toward Pierce Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.
