Man critically injured in Macon robbery attempt

A Macon man was critically injured during an armed robbery attempt Tuesday morning.

David Lord, 61, was parking his vehicle in the parking lot at the Best Western Riverside Drive at 2400 Riverside Drive around 3:40 a.m. when he was approached by a "tall slender black male," according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. The suspect demanded money, witnesses said, and when Lord refused, the man hit him in the head with a "foreign object."

The suspect fled, and Lord was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition with head injuries.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to leave a message for the on-call property investigator or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
