One dead, two injured in Bleckley County wreck

A 24-year-old Cochran man was killed in a car crash on Ga. 87 in Bleckley County on Wednesday afternoon.

Cesar Tapia Herrera was driving north on the highway in a Ford Mustang about 4:15 p.m. when he lost control and crossed the center line into the southbound lane, according to an email from the Georgia Department of Public Safety's public information office.

Authorities said Herrera was driving too fast for conditions when he struck the rear left portion of a Nissan pickup driven by 27-year-old Robert Martin, of Eastman. William W. Smith, 66, was driving a Jeep behind the Nissan and struck the Mustang in the left door, according to the email.

Herrera was killed. Martin and Smith were injured and taken to Taylor Regional Hospital.
