A 15-year-old Macon youth charged with raping an 8-year-old girl was denied bond Thursday during a hearing in Bibb County Superior Court.

Donquavious Jamal Johnson has been held at a youth detention center since his arrest Oct. 21.

Prosecutor Larissa Olliverre said police talked with the girl's mother Oct. 14 after the girl told a neighbor that she'd been sexually assaulted by a boy named Jamal.

The girl told authorities the alleged sex acts began around Easter 2015. She said Johnson pulled her underneath a mobile home and forced her to perform sex acts on multiple occasions, Olliverre said.

The child told a deputy she didn't tell anyone before October because she was scared. Talking with the deputy, "she was visibly shaken," Olliverre said in court Thursday.

Johnson's lawyer, Amy Bell, argued that Johnson isn't a flight risk, and he's not likely to break the law or intimidate witnesses if he's released on bond.

An eighth-grader who's been involved in sports, Johnson hasn't been in trouble in Juvenile Court or served time in in-school suspension, Bell said.

He and his mother have talked with an investigator instead of trying to run away, she said.

Olliverre said the case is set to be presented to a grand jury in December.
