The driver of a car authorities believe struck a road-crew worker along Forest Hill Road in north Macon on Thursday evening was jailed Friday.

About 7 p.m. Thursday, the worker, 21-year-old Lewis Rodriguez-Jimenez, of Jonesboro, was on the road's southbound shoulder when he was hit and injured by a car that didn't stop, officials said.

Bibb County sheriff's deputies on Friday morning received a tip from the owner of a silver 2010 Dodge Avenger who said she'd loaned the car to a relative sometime Thursday.

That night, the car's owner saw the car was damaged and asked the relative what happened. The relative said she hit a curb. But then the owner heard someone had been hit along Forest Hill at Oakhill Court, in a road-construction zone between Forest Hills United Methodist Church and Lokchapee Drive.

The owner spoke to sheriff's officials Friday morning, and after deputies inspected the car they arrested the owner's relative, 24-year-old Teri Alexandria Rollins, of Macon.

"Rollins told deputies she did not remember hitting anyone," a sheriff's office news release said.

Rollins was charged with hit and run, failure to report an accident, failure to render aid, failure to maintain lane and driving without a license. She was being held at the county jail Friday on a $3,900 bond.

Rodriguez-Jimenez was expected to be released from a Macon hospital Friday afternoon.
