Macon man indicted, accused of shooting at deputy, leading car chase
Bibb County grand jurors on Tuesday indicted a 35-year-old Macon man who in August allegedly shot at a Bibb sheriff's deputy and led authorities on a high-speed car chase.
The deputy, Lee Rohrbach, wasn't injured in the Aug. 15 incident, which began off Hightower Road, between Pio Nono and Houston avenues.
Sheriff's officials have in the past said Artez L. Maloy was seen firing shots from a Ford Crown Victoria that evening on Evergreen Drive. Tuesday's indictment, which formally charged Maloy with aggravated assault on a peace officer, says Maloy "knowingly" fired at Rohrbach with a handgun.
Maloy also faces a charge of eluding police. He allegedly led officers on a chase that stretched from the Houston Avenue and Broadway areas south to near Middle Georgia Regional Airport and back before ditching the car and later turning himself in.
