Bibb SWAT Team ends four-hour standoff at Macon home
A burglary suspect allegedly kicked in a back door and holed up in a house for four hours Monday until the Bibb County sheriff's SWAT team intervened.
After someone who lived there called the cops, Christopher Matthew Poole, 36, initially answered the door to deputies about 5:30 p.m., authorities said.
But then Poole ran into a back room and locked the door in the house at 161 Decatur Ave., off Riggins Mill Road in east Bibb County, sheriff's officials said.
After learning there was a gun in the house, a negotiator tried several times to contact Poole.
Someone who had been in the house when Poole allegedly barged in told deputies that Poole was inside using drugs. The landlord told deputies by phone that Poole also had broken in the day before, stealing clothing and other items.
An incident report of Monday evening's episode noted that Poole at one point opened the front door of the house and hollered at police, "I'm going to blow y'all's heads off!"
Ultimately SWAT officers went in and arrested him just after 9:30 p.m. Officers found a .22-caliber rifle lying on a bed.
After Poole was checked by paramedics, he was booked on charges of burglary, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and terroristic threats.
Poole also had an outstanding warrant on an unrelated charge in Houston County.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Poole has served two prison stints for multiple crimes in Bibb and Houston counties, including theft, burglary, forgery and trespassing.
