Woman charged after baby’s remains found in Washington County

A tip to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office led to the discovery of the remains of a dead baby.

Investigators found the body Saturday on Middle Hill Road in Warthen, according to a news release from Sheriff Thomas Smith.

Deputies charged 24-year-old Jessica Ballard, of Bussell Road in Warthen, with cruelty to children and making false statements.

The infant’s remains were taken to the GBI for testing, but results are pending in the ongoing investigation, the release said.
