Macon man died trying to keep stepfather from driving drunk, cops say
A Macon man who was run over and killed in his stepfather’s driveway Tuesday night may have died trying to prevent the stepfather from driving drunk.
Lamar Blake Shelton, 35, was found dead in a driveway at 181 Sand Creek Trail about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Shelton’s stepdad, James Harmon Reese, 55, who lives at the house there west of U.S. 129 between Macon and Gray, was charged with voluntary manslaughter on Thursday.
Jones County sheriff’s Capt. Earl Humphries said that on Tuesday evening Reese and Shelton went to Reese’s place on Sand Creek Trail, where “a pretty good bit of alcohol” was consumed.
Humphries said that sometime between 7:30 and 10 p.m., as Reese was trying to leave the house in a Chevy Suburban, Shelton tried to stop Reese and was run over.
