Macon man run over, found dead in Jones County driveway

Jones County sheriff’s investigators on Wednesday had a suspect in custody and were examining an SUV for clues in the Tuesday death of a man they say was run over in a driveway between Macon and Gray.

Lamar Blake Shelton, 35, of Macon, was found dead about 10 p.m. Tuesday at 181 Sand Creek Trail, north of Rock Creek and Wheeler Road, off U.S. 129.

Sheriff Butch Reece said Shelton’s stepfather alerted the authorities that Shelton’s body was in the driveway there on Sand Creek Trail, just west of Gray Highway.

The sheriff said Wednesday afternoon that investigators were still gathering details of what happened. Reece said alcohol may have been a factor.

Sheriff’s Capt. Earl Humphries said authorities believe Shelton’s death stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The vehicle investigators were examining was a Chevy Suburban.

Humphries said the suspect in custody, whom he declined to name, was being held for questioning.

A second person was also considered a suspect, the captain said.

An autopsy of Shelton’s body was scheduled for Thursday.
