Judge grants $500,000 bond for Perry pastor accused in fiancée’s murder
A $500,000 bond has been set for a Houston County pastor charged with murder in the June 12 shooting death of his fiancee.
Dozens of people filed into a Bibb County courtroom to support William Pounds during the Sept. 1 hearing in which he requested a bond.
Pounds is a bi-vocational minister who leads Perry’s Kings Chapel Memorial CME Church while also working as a senior master sergeant assigned to the 116th Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base.
He is charged with murder in the death of 46-year-old Kendra Jackson. Jackson’s death at Pounds’ townhouse off Macon’s Stinsonville Road was initially ruled a suicide, but was subjected to additional scrutiny after deputies later deemed it suspicious.
Pounds has been held at the county jail since his Aug. 14 arrest.
If released, Pounds will be required to stay at home unless he’s going to work or attending Sunday church services, according to the bond order signed Tuesday.
He’s also barred from having firearms or contacting Jackson’s family, according to the order.
Franklin J. Hogue, one of two lawyers representing Pounds, has said his client maintains Jackson’s death was a suicide.
Prosecutor Jonathan Adams accused Pounds of living a “double life” during the bond hearing.
In questioning character witnesses called to testify by Pounds’ lawyers, he asked if they were aware that Pounds was engaged to two women at one time and if they knew Pounds had been convicted of forgery and obstruction.
The witnesses replied that they were not aware of the allegations.
