5-year-old dies after being hit by truck in east Macon

A 5-year-old girl died late Thursday after being hit by a truck in east Macon.

Ma’lijah Seales was walking with a relative to the store at the intersection of Millerfield and Jeffersonville roads when she ran into traffic, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The girl was hit by a 1973 Ford truck driven by a 29-year-old man in the northbound lane of Millerfield Road.

She was rushed in critical condition to Medical Center, Navicent Health shortly after 7 p.m. and was transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she died shortly after 11 p.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident and anyone with information is urged to call 478-751-7500 and leave a message for the on-call traffic accident investigator.
