Girlfriend charged with murder in Macon man’s shooting death

Authorities have arrested a Macon woman in the early Saturday morning shooting death of Ricky Smith.

Smith, of Rutherford Avenue, was wounded at about 1 a.m. in the 1100 block of Macon Avenue, which is about a block and a half off Napier Avenue, near its juncture with Hillcrest Boulevard, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Bibb County deputies responded to the shooting after receiving a call from Donna Jackson, 45. She told deputies she shot her boyfriend in self-defense, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Smith, 53, was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at Medical Center, Navicent Health.

After questioning by deputies, Jackson was arrested on a murder charge, the release states.
