A north Macon kennel owner was arrested on dozens on animal cruelty charges Friday.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist the Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare Department and state inspectors at Rock Ridge Kennels, located at 6875 Colaparchee Road. There, 74 dogs were removed due to inhumane conditions, prolonged suffering, unsanitary conditions and improper housing, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Macon resident Pam Daniel, 73, is the owner of the kennel and was taken to the Bibb County jail. She was charged with 74 counts of animal cruelty.

The dogs, which can’t be adopted out during the investigation, will be held at the Macon-Bibb County animal shelter and assessed by a veterinarian there. The shelter is over capacity by 135 animals but has been granted a “temporary stay” while staffers find homes for the animals already in the facility, according to the news release.

The Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare Office is asking for the public to visit the shelter and adopt or foster the available animals. The Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare Department can be contacted at 478-621-6791.
