More arrests made in alleged staged-wreck scam

Two more people have been arrested in alleged Macon scams in which rented moving trucks were used to run into cars so that passengers could illegally cash in on insurance claims.

News of the supposed swindles emerged Monday when state officials announced charges against 11 people in three separate staged crashes last year.

Six were jailed that day, and five were being sought.

On Tuesday, Tamika Dashon Hogan, 20, and Sammy Lee Briggs, 52, were booked into the Bibb County jail.

Hogan, charged with theft, insurance fraud and false report of a crime, was released Wednesday on a $9,950 bond.

Briggs, charged with insurance fraud, was also released Wednesday after posting $2,950 bond.

Three other suspects in the case -- Bryant Orlando Tanner, 46; Demario Anton James, 23; and Sherrod Herschel James, 22 -- had not been caught as of Wednesday evening.

According to authorities, the moving trucks rear-ended cars with people the alleged scammers knew riding in the cars. Those passengers then allegedly filed bogus insurance claims.
