A suspect’s charge was upgraded to murder after the victim of a shooting near a Macon gas station died from her injuries on Friday, according to Coroner Leon Jones and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Teagan Jones, 33, died after being in critical condition following an incident that occurred on June 7 at a Circle K located at 3391 Mercer University Drive. She was running away from Delmar Tavaris Eugene Black, who allegedly shot her after an argument, according to the sheriff’s office.

Black was her boyfriend, according to Leon Jones.

What happened

Deputies were dispatched to the gas station after reports that a person had been shot. Sgt. Thomas Kent, who responded to the scene, noticed “that there was a woman lying in the road with several people standing over her and vehicles blocking traffic for her,” according to the incident report provided to The Telegraph.

Witnesses reported that Teagan Jones was arguing with a man at the Enmark at 3311 Mercer University Drive. Teagan Jones then got into a silver Buick Enclave that drove to the Circle K and parked.

“The man took all the woman’s stuff out of the vehicle and threw (it) on the ground,” the incident report said. “(A witness) then saw the woman attempting to flee from the male towards the road.”

Black was shooting at Teagan Jones as she ran away from him, the incident report said. When she was struck in her lower left leg, she stumbled in the roadway right in front of a vehicle. She was then run over by a car, the report said.

Black drove away from the scene, authorities said. He was eventually spotted by Flock cameras fleeing south on Harrison Road, according to the news release and the incident report. After a brief chase, deputies performed a PIT maneuver. Black was blocked in. He refused to exit his vehicle and fired at deputies from inside the vehicle, according to the news release.

He was eventually arrested and taken to a medical facility to be treated for injuries. Black was then taken to the Bibb County Jail, where he faces charges of murder, aggravated assault on law enforcement officers and felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, according to the news release.

He’s also wanted in Turner County, though it’s unclear why.

The incident remains under investigation. Deputies urge anyone with information to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
