4 arrested, 5 sought in Middle GA mail theft and check fraud investigation
An investigation into stolen checks mailed through the Perry Post Office has led to the arrest of four people and warrants for five additional suspects, the Perry Police Department said Friday in a news release.
Authorities said the mail theft and check fraud scheme affected 15 to 20 residents across Perry and Houston County.
The Perry Police Department began its investigation in September 2025 after receiving multiple reports from residents whose checks had been stolen after being placed in the U.S. Postal Service mail system.
“As investigators identified a pattern among the incidents, the Perry Police Department launched an extensive investigation utilizing a variety of investigative techniques and resources to identify those responsible,” law enforcement said. “Through these efforts, detectives identified multiple suspects believed to be involved in a scheme involving stolen mail, check theft and check fraud.”
Those arrested were identified as:
- Exivaes Doral Robinson, 31, of Leesburg
- Kevon Lemond Holmes, 30, of Leesburg
- Kevontae Demtrius Downs, 25, of Sylvester
- Diamond Sandrell Byrd, 32, of Albany
Robinson, Holmes and Byrd are each charged with financial identity fraud and theft by deception. Downs is charged with financial identity fraud.
Police also announced outstanding warrants for Cory Antonio Thomas, 34, of Albany; Reshonda Renee Taylor, 30, of Albany; Lorenzo Oliver James, 27, of Albany; Gregory D. Jackson, 34, of Albany; and Na’Quavus Shannoris Taylor, 26, of Leesburg.
The Perry Police Department credited the Leesburg Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Postal Service for assisting with the months-long investigation.
Police said the investigation remains active and additional arrests or charges could follow as evidence continues to be reviewed.
The Perry Police Department urged residents to use caution when mailing checks or sensitive financial documents and to consider alternative payment methods when possible.
