Man found dead on porch of Macon home ‘appears to be a homicide,’ official says
A 43-year-old man was found dead on the front porch of a Macon home early Thursday, prompting a Bibb County sheriff’s investigation.
“He was laying out in front of where he lived,” Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, who pronounced the man dead on scene, told The Telegraph.
“That’s all we know right now. We don’t know who did it or anything. But it appears to be a homicide,” Miley said.
The man suffered a “wound injury” but it’s not yet known what caused it, Miley said. He declined to elaborate.
An autopsy is expected Monday morning at the Macon GBI crime lab, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. The cause of death can't be confirmed until the autopsy is done.
The man’s name is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.
A call of an unresponsive man on the porch of a Burke Street residence came into 911 just before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to a sheriff’s office news release. .
The sheriff’s office is holding off on saying whether the death was a homicide or whether the victim may have hurt himself, said Capt. Linda Howard, over public affairs for the sheriff’s office.
“We don’t know what the cause of death is,” Howard said. “We’re going to have to send them for an autopsy to find out exactly what it is.”
The sheriff’s office wants to wait for the autopsy to determine whether “it was someone else or self-inflicted,” Howard said.
What type of wound was suffered is not yet known, Howard said. Investigators aren’t ruling anything out at this point.
“That’s what they’re working to determine what happened,” Howard said.
