Bibb deputy fired, charged after striking man during an arrest, sheriff’s office says
A Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested and fired following an internal investigation, the agency announced Friday.
Deputy Meshaun Gibson, who was assigned to the patrol division at the time of the incident, was arrested on a charge of simple battery, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The investigation identified violations related to an incident on April 3 at a residence in the 3600 block of Riverside Drive, authorities said.
Gibson struck a man in the face during an arrest. The internal investigation found that the man was being compliant at the time he was struck, the release said.
Gibson was terminated Thursday afternoon by Chief Deputy Chris Patterson, authorities said.
As a result of the charge, Gibson turned herself in to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on Thursday night and was released on bond.
