A Warner Robins man pleaded guilty Thursday to charges related to an incident in which he stabbed one of his guests, according to a Friday news release from Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards.

Joshua Lamar Phillips was ordered to serve 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to two counts of aggravated assault. His case stemmed from a stabbing in January, where he swung a box cutter at guests in his home, injuring one, according to the news release.

The incident was “not an isolated lapse of judgment,” Edwards said. Phillips was on probation for similar offenses at the time of the assault, the news release said.

“(He chose) to abscond from supervision rather than comply with the conditions imposed upon him,” Edwards said. “That history, combined with the violence in this case, made a significant prison sentence necessary to protect the community.”

After serving his prison sentence, Phillips would need to serve 10 years of probation.

Pellet guns similar to real guns found when arrested

Phillips, along with the mother of his children, invited people to their home in the 500 block of King Richard Drive in Warner Robins, the news release said. He became highly intoxicated and argumentative with his guests as the night went on.

“At some point, Phillips grabbed a set of box cutters and started the instrument towards the two victims, cutting one of the victims on the abdomen,” according to the news release.

The victims contacted 911 dispatchers after they left the home. Law enforcement arrived and provided medical assistance to the injured person, who was taken to Atrium Health in Macon for further treatment, the news release said.

The victims told law enforcement that Phillips used guns in the past, which led officers to deploy “a tactical robot to clear the residence,” the news release said. Police entered the home after the robot and found Phillips hiding in a bedroom closet.

“Multiple box cutters were found inside the residence, along with two pellet guns that had the appearance of being real firearms,” according to the news release.
