A gun was found at Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School in Macon on Wednesday morning after campus police conducted a search during a brief precautionary lockdown, according to school officials.

The school was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes while campus police conducted a search following a tip from social media. During a precautionary lockdown, instruction continues but movement throughout the building is limited, Bibb County School District spokesperson Stephanie Hartley said.

In a 10:46 a.m. message to parents via ParentSquare, officials said the gun was recovered during the search and that the school has since resumed normal operations.

“All students and staff are safe, and we will follow up with additional information later today,” the message said.

The district did not respond to questions about whether anyone was arrested or what type of firearm was found.

Hartley said campus police are continuing to investigate and no further details are immediately available at this time.
