Man shot dead at Houston County apartments. No ‘active threat,’ police say
A man was shot to death in a Kathleen gated community Thursday night, according to the Perry Police Department.
A 911 call reported a shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. in Houston Lake Apartments on Houston Lake Road, according to Lindsay Eschenbach, a senior crime analyst at police department.
Officers searched the area and found a man with a gunshot wound behind the 1700 building, Eschenbach said in a news release Friday.
The Houston County Coroner’s Office pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to police.
Law enforcement did not immediately share the victim’s identity because his family was not yet notified, officers said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Perry Police Department were investigating.
“Currently, authorities do not believe there is an active threat to the public,” Eschenbach said in an email.
It was unclear if a suspect was in custody. Police did not immediately respond to The Telegraph’s request for comment.
Anyone with tips was urged to contact Detective Sergeant Aaron Conner at 478-988-2829, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
