Officers witnessing domestic dispute in Centerville led to aggressor’s conviction
Officers saw a man physically assaulting his former partner in their Centerville residence, which led to him serving seven months in prison, according to a news release Friday from Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards.
Devin Jamal Robinson, 29, pleaded guilty Feb. 23 to an aggravated assault family violence charge. His case centered on an incident on Aug. 26, 2024, when he had been involved in an aggressive domestic dispute with his former partner. It occurred outside their residence in the 100 block of Red Birch Lane in Centerville, according to the news release.
A neighbor witnessed the dispute and called the Centerville Police Department. The dispute was still going on by the time deputies arrived at the residence, the news release said.
“During the course of the attack, Robinson strangled the victim with his hands, struck her in the face multiple times, pulled her hair, and held her down, preventing escape,” prosecutors said in the news release. “Officers observed numerous injuries on the victim’s face and body.”
When deputies intervened, Robinson told them that he wasn’t worried about his family violence charge, the news release said. He had been on probation at the time of the incident for a drug offense, but he didn’t believe that a family violence charge would result in having his probation revoked.
“Robinson further stated that he ‘wouldn’t worry about the charges, as [he wouldn’t] be here very long,’” the news release said.
His probation, however, was fully revoked; he was sentenced to less than two months in prison, the news release said.
Robinson was sentenced to seven years by Judge Edward D. Lukemire, the news release said. His sentence will be followed by 13 years of probation.
“Houston County has experienced an alarming number of family violence homicides,” Edwards said. “Many of those tragedies began with assaults that looked very similar to this one — no firearm, no knife, just a violent offender using his hands to exert control over another person. We take those warning signs extremely seriously.”
